Clinical Utility of Serum Glycodelin as a Novel Marker for Ovarian Cancer

چکیده
Ovarian cancer is a cancerous growth arising from different parts of the ovary. It has been called "Silent killer" because it frequently causes non-specific symptoms. CA125 was the first tumor marker available for detection of ovarian cancer but the major problem is its poor sensitivity and specificity as it is elevated in only 40-50 % of patients with stages І and ІІ ovarian cancer. Glycodelin consists of 180 amino acid and it is a glycoprotein belonging to the lipocalin family. In the present study, ELISA technique is utilized for the selective detection of Glycodelin. The detection of Glycodelin, utilizing ELISA technique, indicated a significantly high glycodelin levels in group one (ovarian cancer) as compared to either control group or benign ovarian disease group. Glycodelin was found to be highly sensitive as well as an early diagnostic marker for ovarian cancer. The utilization of the Glycodelin detection in addition to the current and standard tests available for diagnosis of an early and recurrent ovarian cancer would significantly improve the ability to identify patients who might be missed by the current diagnostic strategies and thus might provide a better therapeutic outcome. Expression of the glycodelin A gene and the detection of its protein in tissues and serum of ovarian carcinoma patients.
BACKGROUND Glycodelin A (GdA), also known as placental protein 14 (PP14), has been detected in endometrial, cervical and ovarian carcinoma cells. It is suspected to be a marker of human ovarian cancer tissues. MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated serum, tissue and cyst fluid samples of patients with an ovarian carcinoma in contrast to patients with benign and malignant diseases such as uteri...

OBJECTIVE The role of glycodelin in human reproduction and gynecological malignancies has been investigated in a large number of studies in recent years. Three dominant functions of this glycoprotein were identified. Glycodelin is immunosuppressive, a morphological marker of differentiation and a contraceptive. Glycodelin is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 28 kDa and a carbohydrate co...

متن کاملGlycodelin in ovarian serous carcinoma: association with differentiation and survival.
Ovarian cancer consists of many subtypes, serous carcinoma being the most common of them. In addition to the histopathological subtype, grading, clinical staging, and the amount of residual tumor, a great number of putative prognostic markers have been introduced. This study addresses in ovarian serous carcinoma the role of glycodelin, the major progesterone-regulated lipocalin protein of the r...
